As we want to limit risk and inventory, we often end up with closely integrated relations and supply chains where evermore refined pieces are to land in the next process like toppling dominos. 

Now add geopolitics, pandemics, and accelating technologies like remote presence, autonomous systems, spatial computing and artificial intelligence. As you catch up with one generation the next has already left the station.
